Taxes & Surcharges
As ConsignHQ is offered globally, we have made it easy to customize taxes & surcharges to whatever applies for your store.
When you created your store we added a default Sales Tax of 10% (exlusive); it's likely you'll want to change this tax rate and add other fees and taxes relevant to your store.
Any taxes / surcharges you setup can be overriden when you add a product (and again on the checkout screen). For example, you might set up a 'luxury tax' but only apply it to certain items.
Add or edit a tax / surcharge
Taxes and surcharges can be managed by going to the Taxes & Surcharges screen, you can get there by clicking 'Settings' on the main navigation, and then 'Taxes & Surcharges' on the top bar.
To add a new one click the 'Add Tax / Surcharge' button on the top right. To edit an existing one (e.g to change the default Sales Tax rate) click the 'Edit' link on the relevant item.
You will now see a dialog with several fields, complete each one as necessary and then press Save.

Tax / surcharge types
Buyer's Fee
This is a surcharge applied to the customer (the person making the purchase). The consignor/store split will be calculated after the buyers fee is subtracted, with the store also recieving the buyers fee.
Note - When adding a product include the buyers fee in the tag price. E.g if the price is $10 with a buyers fee of $1 make the tag price $11. Calculations will be adjusted automatically when you apply the fee at checkout.

Consignor
This is a surcharge applied to the consignor (the person whos product you are selling). The fee is subtracted from the consignors portion of the calculated split.
Tax
The most common type of tax is a Sales tax, but different states/countries may have other types, or different rates depending on the type of product. You can configure as many taxes as you like and apply (or exclude) them on a product to product basis.

Store/Consignor splits are calculated after taxes are deducted. For example if a product costs $100 with a 10% excl sales tax, the total collected will be $110; on a 50% split policy, the consignor split would be calculated at $50.
Taxes can be either inclusive ('include in price tag') or exclusive ('add to price tag'). In the US most sales taxes will be exclusive. In countries such as Australia most sales taxes (e.g GST) will be inclusive, and included in the price tag.
Method
Fixed
This means the value of the tax/surcharge to be applied will be a fixed amount regardless of the price a product sells for. For example, a product with a $10 tag price and a Fixed 'add to price tag' value of $2 would cost $12.

Percent
This means the value of the tax/surcharge to be applied will be a percentage amount regardless of the price a product sells for. For example, a product with a $10 tag price and a Percent 'add to price tag' value of 10% would cost $11.
Default taxes / s urcharges
'Is default' determines if the tax/surcharge is applied by default when a new product is added. It will only apply to new products you add from this time on, existing products and transactions will remain as is.
A tax/surcharge can still be applied to a product if this isn't checked, but you'll have to manually tick it when adding the product or at checkout. Most likely you'll want to leave this enabled for your main sales tax and fees, and disable it for rarer fees that only apply to a small % of your products.
